Way to Go Cowboy!

As the 20th selection overall in Saturday's first round of the NFL draft, Oklahoma State tight end Brandon Pettigrew became the first Cowboy drafted by the Detroit Lions since 1989, when Heisman Trophy-winning running back Barry Sanders was taken third overall.

Pettigrew is the 15th OSU player to have been an NFL first-round draft pick.

"It's been a long journey." Pettigrew said in a story on the Lions' Web site. "I've been playing football for a long time. This is what I've been working for. I'm excited."

A Tyler, Texas, native, Pettigrew completed his Cowboy career with 114 catches, making him the most prolific tight end in school history. He finished with 1,450 receiving yards (ranking him seventh on OSU's career chart). Overall, he is tied for sixth on OSU's career list for total receptions.
